The Ice Eater® by Airmax (formerly Powerhouse Inc). are the most energy efficient submersed thrust deicers and the industry standard in preventing dock damage in Canada. Ice Eater® deicers are designed to be used in the harsh Canadian climate and are used in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Quebec, New Brunswick, and across Canada by private marinas, house boat and dock owners who want to prevent ice damage and avoid the trouble of removing docks for the winter.

The submersible motor of the Ice Eater deicer, sometimes called a bubbler, keeps ice from damaging docks and boats.  Ice Eater® deicers are easily suspended from docks and the thrusting motion of their propellers pushing warm waters to the surface will leave large areas of open water around any dock or dam or structure even in cold Canadian conditions. These deicers are also used to keep pump intakes and dam structures free from ice in commercial applications.

With three sizes, 1/2 HP (120 volts only)  3/4 HP and 1HP (120 volts or 240 volts), Ice Eater® De-Icers easily fit your location and electrical requirements. Ice Eater® De-Icers can be suspended by the included nylon mooring ropes, mounted on an optional Universal Dock Mount, or attached to an optional Horizontal Float for operation in many conditions.To further reduce electrical costs, optional De-Icer Thermostat Controllers  can be added to the Ice Eater® De-Icing system to help control electric bills.

* Small bodies of water, the Great Lakes, and extreme northern climates may see less open water areas. Typical ice opening will vary according to submergence depths, on air temperatures, winds and Ice Eater positioning and angle.

De-Icing is accurately referred to as an art form more than an exact science. Each application and location is different and there is no set rule in determining how many Ice Eater® are needed for a given area or which mounting option is the best. The effectiveness of your Ice Eater depends on many factors. Keep in mind the following table is to be used as a general guideline and each situation is different. Ice Eater® Dock Bubblers from Airmax  come complete for suspended operation from a dock or boat in either a vertical or angled position. The angled operation by suspended method or with optional flotation unit produces an elongated pattern of agitated water. A vertical positioning produces a circular pattern. Vertical positioning of the Ice-Eater works well under boats and docks or between slips and boats.

Dock Mount Kit • Fits 1/2 HP and 3/4 HP and 1 HP Ice Eaters  • Adjusts Ice Eater angle in 20° increments from horizontal to vertical with full 360° positioning • Steel mounting base, bale & pipe holder are all powder-coated twice to protect against corrosion • Includes mounting base, bail with clevis pins & clips, pipe holder with bolts & nuts, plus tightening handle • Maximum pole length is 6’ to provide secure mounting & prevents pole from bending • Connection pipe is included  - galvanized 6' pole • Customer to provide appropriate lag screws or u-bolts to secure mount to dock, piling, pole or bulkhead

Thermostat Thermostats measure air temperature and switches Ice Eater on when a set air temperature is reached. Adjustable from -2 Celsius to +20 Celsius.

Shallow Water Mount - Galvanized

Adjusting the angle of the Ice Eater suspension is done by simply changing the holes which you shackle the ropes to. Angled operation can be used to de-ice shallow water areas. This will direct the flow warmer water from a deeper area into the shallower area. Remember, an Ice Eater De-Icer works partly because it draws warmer, denser water from the bottom and circulates it upward to the surface, preventing ice formation or melting existing ice.

It is often easier to de-ice a boat by installing the de-icer at or near the bow, angled toward the stern. If the water flow is directed toward the shore or a retaining wall, it will flair, forming a desirable"T" shape de-icing pattern.

In tidal waters, split the difference in water depth so the De-Icer is in shallow water at low tide and deep water at high tide. Or, tie your Ice Eater to the boat and allow the boat and Ice Eater to rise and fall with the tide.

The PVC shroud housing of the Ice Eater allows the suspension ropes to be adjusted to five different positions to vary the surface deicing patterns by directing the thrust as you require. A vertical placement will leave a round hole while an angled suspension will create an elongated pattern.
